Pico laser tattoo removal in Perth, Scotland
I remove tattoos with a picosecond laser, known as a pico laser. It is the newer generation of removal laser and a real step up on the older nanosecond machines: shorter pulses, finer ink fragments, and usually fewer sessions to get there. I work at a private studio just outside Perth, one client at a time, by appointment. Most tattoos take a course of sessions rather than a single visit, and you will know how many to expect at the consultation, before you plan your dates.
A pico laser sends pulses lasting trillionths of a second. At that speed the ink is shattered by a pressure wave rather than heated, so it breaks into finer fragments — small enough for your body to carry away over the following weeks, and with less heat reaching the skin around it. That clearing happens between appointments, not during them, which is why sessions are spaced six to eight weeks apart — going sooner does not speed anything up, it only irritates skin that has not finished healing.
How many sessions you need depends on things neither of us chooses: the colour of the ink, how deep and how densely it was packed, how old the tattoo is, and where it sits on your body. Black and dark blue respond most readily. Greens, light blues and some yellows are the stubborn ones — this is where a pico laser has the clearest advantage over the older nanosecond machines, though a few pigments still barely shift. Amateur tattoos usually clear faster than professional ones because the ink sits shallower.
I will look at your tattoo at the consultation and give you an honest range rather than a number that sounds good. If I think a tattoo is unlikely to clear completely, I will say so — fading it enough for a cover-up is a legitimate goal and often the more realistic one.
What a session looks like

Consultation: I look at the tattoo, ask about your skin and medical history, and we agree a realistic plan and spacing.

Patch test: a small area is treated so we can see how your skin reacts before committing to a full session. This is required before the first treatment.

Treatment: short and intense rather than long. Most people describe it as a hot elastic band snapping against the skin. A small tattoo takes minutes.

Aftercare: the area is cooled and dressed. You keep it clean, dry and out of the sun; I will go through exactly what that means before you leave.

Before you book
Tattoo removal and hair removal use different lasers and are separate treatments — one cannot be substituted for the other. Removal is not suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding, on recently tanned skin, or while you are taking certain photosensitising medications. Results vary between individuals, and I do not promise complete clearance in any fixed number of sessions.
